Lady Rebecca Marshall fulfills her mother’s fondest wish when she becomes a maid of honor at the court of Queen Victoria. Having been disappointed two years ago when the Duke of Norford’s heir Raphael Locke married another woman, Rebecca’s mother sees this court appointment as a golden opportunity for Rebecca. At court, Rebecca meets the charming marquis Rupert St. John, whom Rebecca knows as the devastatingly handsome n’er-do-well cousin of Raphael Locke, the man she was once infatuated with. What Rebecca doesn’t know is that Rupert is a secret agent of the crown who leads a double life.
Rebecca strikes up a lively flirtation with Rupert, but when Rupert realizes she’s spying on him he seduces her. He hardly suspects that she’s an innocent and he’s horrified when she reveals she is pregnant! Forced to the altar by their families, Rupert believes that Rebecca has set a trap of the worst sort in order to marry into the powerful Locke family. And her vows that theirs will not simply be a marriage in name only; he plans to enjoy many passionate nights with his beautiful, scheming wife.
This was the first book I ever read by Johanna Lindsey.I found in on the shelves of our local library and figured it is just my cup of tea- and it turned out to be that and more. It is a perfect novel. Not only was I completely submerged in the romance of Lady Rebecca and Rupert St. John, but, as the novel progressed I was torn as the circumstances the two were put in. I hurt when they hurt and loved every second of it. An emotionally involved, a suspenseful (where you can’t help turn the page to find out what happens next), and completely lovable novel. I can’t wait to read more by Johanna Lindsey. I just don’t know where to start!!
Well, if you can get it “Captive Bride” would be the place to start. 😀 Right at the very beginning. That was Lindsey’s first romance.
I LOVE the Malory series 🙂 I do hope she does more books about this family maybe Travis and Marshall or maybe even Percy? It doesn’t matter to me as long as I get to revisit this amazing Family
I love the malorys and the Andersons. I cant wait to hear more from them. Is there a book about Anthonys daughter yet?
yes – his daughter that he didn’t know he had – No Choice But Seduction…..enjoy!
